The Story of Lùnapop
The story of Lùnapop goes way back to 1986, in
Bologna, Italy where there lived a little six year old boy called Cesare Cremonini who had
just started taking piano lessons. A passion for the piano was soon born, but turned
into a love/hate relationship. His teachers found that he was very talented and
encouraged Mr Cremonini to enrol young Cremonini into a music academy, but because of his
love/hate relationship with the piano, Cesare rejected the idea of enrolling into a
conservatory but continued learning the piano. The first songs that Cesare ever wrote were in broken Italian-English, with his desk-buddy Gabriele Gallassi. In his teenage years, he began writing music in Italian and focused the lyrics on peace and freedom, while teaching himself the guitar and he eventually wrote about love, hate, suffering and joy - feelings from his own experiences. Together with Gabriele Gallassi (Gabri) and Alessandro De Simone (Lillo), Cesare formed a band called Senza Flitro and they perfomed at many highschool parties. They were soon joined by Lorenzo Benedetti and Andrea Furlanetto. Together, they did gigs in local pubs and clubs and continued performing at highschool parties. In 1997, a couple of changes took place. Cesare had finally found a producer - Walter Mameli. The name "Senza Filtro" changed to "Lùnapop". Lorenzo was replaced by Michele Giuliani (Mike), who was another of Cesare's desk-buddies, and Andrea was replaced by 17 year old Nicola Balestri (Ballo). Also that year, the band won the X Edition of the San Marino Festival with their "Qualcosa di Grande" (Something Big) demo, followed by a release of "50 Special" "Un Giorno Migliore" (A Better Day) was released in November 1999 and on the 3rd of December 1999, their debut album "...Squérez?" was launched, which turned out to be a great success. So great that I don't have time to type it all out, so if you want to know about it, you'll have to go to Lùnapop's official site www.lunapop.com. In June 2002, it was announced that Gabri, Lillo and Mike will be leaving the band. Mike will be replaced by Andrea Morelli and Lillo will be replaced by Matteo Monti. Their new album "Bagus" will be released soon this winter (summer for Italy) |
